Force One Yari is perfect for new mechanical keyboard enthusiasts — Review

For some time now, mechanical keyboards have already established themselves as a very desirable upgrade among PC users, whether they are gamers or not. Models of this type differ from membrane variants, which are more common on the market, as they have a more elaborate constructionensuring greater reliability in touches and, especially, a unique tactile sensation.

Naturally, these improvements to mechanical keyboards come at a costwhich usually leads most consumers to opt for a traditional membrane model — usually cheaper. Furthermore, to complicate the choice, There are multiple options for format, size, stabilization and switchesresponsible for guaranteeing changes in the tactile and sound response in accessories.

In the national market, there are limited alternatives to choose from for formats and switches, with relatively affordable prices. Although, most of them do not allow customizationthat is, it is not possible to exchange more specific components in the chassis.

For those who would like to venture into this niche, but still save money, the most common alternative is importing, which has become more difficult with changes in taxation laws. In this very specific context, there are still national options — such as the Yari model, from Force One.

Getting to know the Force One Yari: design and construction

If you've never heard of the Force One brand, don't worry. The Brazilian company recently debuted on the market and is consolidating itself in the gamer niche with chairs and peripherals. Speaking of which, just like the Force One Hoku mouse, which also we tested it here Voxelthe Yari's difference lies in its versatility.

To begin, the model is hot-swappable, that is, it has a construction that allows the exchange of switches individual. In other words, this means that users can customize the keyboard's tactile sensation as they prefer, making specific keys more responsive (for games) or silent, for work environments. All this is possible without much difficulty: just remove the key and the switch with the right tool — already included in the box.

And speaking of keys, the set of keycaps Force One Yari doesn't disappointbringing a clear and Double-Shot PBT construction. This way, the components will not “peel” or “wear out” their paintwork with use, a difference that guarantees greater longevity to the model. If you prefer a personalized look, the box also features a complete alternative set of keyswhich can be in white or black.

O chassis is made of very resistant plastic, which makes the construction lighter, while also giving the structure more flexibility — something that may be undesirable for some users. Visually, the set may resemble a more retro keyboardbut it can be styled with the presence of RGB lights, which can be configured directly on the keys or in a PC application.

A Force One Yari connection is wiredwith drivers plug-and-play, via a USB-C port neatly nestled in the chassis. The model comes with a braided and removable cable, very well constructed, in black. The component can be managed through small fittings, avoiding a “messy” look on the bench.

Force One Yari in everyday life and games

During the analysis time, I used the Force One Yari in my work routine, which involves constant typing, and in gaming sessions — with a focus on competitive titles. In the beginning, it took a little patience to get my bearings. layout, trying to understand the shortcuts and modifier key interactions. In my opinion, this issue is well-intentioned, as it appears to be related to promoting greater compatibility with different typing formats.

In other words, the prints on the keys seem to try to cover different regions and language settings within the QWERTY layout. Therefore, not all printed shortcuts are actually used, depending on the user's preference, a factor that can generate a “polluted” look and even some confusion. In this context, the language format that I adapted best was International English, which can be adjusted directly in the Operating System used.

This question may seem simple, but it can confuse more casual users and even prevent them from using certain functions. Even consulting the manual, which wasn't much help, I found myself discovering lighting features after weeks of use. This could be resolved with captions for each shortcut and a slightly more detailed usage guide.

Far from the adaptation phase, it is safe to say that I enjoyed the experience of using Force One Yari in my daily work. The tactile sensation of the model is more seriouswith a sound reminiscent of “toc”presenting a relatively long and satisfactory travel distance before recording the input. Much of this is due to the Gateron Yellow switch, which is highly recommended for mixed use cases as it is not so noisy or linear.

Here, we know that there are multiple variants of this switch and that Gateron Yellow is actually a family of components. Once again, just like in the manual, there are not many specifications about which exact model of switch is used — very important information for the enthusiast public. In any case, the set works well, and even features Gasket mounting to improve stabilization and avoid unwanted noise.

When it comes to playing, the Force One Yari doesn't disappoint, but it's safe to say that it doesn't offer any major tactical advantages either. In addition to does not support macrosif the player wants to use them for any reason, the switch and the travel distance on the touches is almost too long to get in the way of a more accurate reaction roll. However, it remains perfectly within the acceptable limit and will not cause too much latency in the inputs.

Naturally, this factor is part of the choice of switch, Gateron Yellow, which is not linear and does not propose to have a lighter “click”. These characteristics belong to switch families such as the Cherry MX Red, which also tend to be noisier and are not versatile for work environments, for example. In this way, I believe that the Force One Yari manages to strike a balance between the two use cases, being suitable for both games and work routines.

Customization, the strong point of the Force One Yari

Although the Force One Yari's versatility is one of its positive points, its vast customization possibilities are its main advantage.. Visually speaking, to begin with, the user can change each of the 95 keys to an alternative color already included in the box (either black or white). The uncomplicated task becomes even easier with the tools also present in the packaging. If you prefer, of course, you can also purchase external kits to further customize the model — and it doesn’t stop there!

Don't like the color of the cable? Just buy another USB-C to USB-A model and fit it to the keyboard. Do you prefer a more minimalist look without logos? It is even possible to change the acrylic plate with the Force One symbol to another one of your choice. With the look in place, simply change the different modes in the RGB lighting until you find a favorite. If you're still not satisfied, you can change each of the switches on the Yari, leaving certain keys more or less tactile, sonorous or responsive.

At this point, you may be wondering: “So, the biggest positive point of the keyboard is the possibility of transforming it into another one?”, and the answer is more complicated than it seems. Paradoxical discussions about the Ship of Theseus aside, the Force One Yari is an excellent keyboard in its own right and will likely meet the needs of most users. The problem, in this case, is its relatively high price range.

Force One Yari. The Force One Yari's aesthetics are one of its strong points.

When there are mechanical keyboards in the R$200 range, or even less, it is difficult to recommend the Yari as an alternative for users who just want a quick upgrade. Thinking about cost-benefit, and assuming that the hypothetical consumer is not interested in customization, there are options for mechanical keyboards with a metal finish for less than R$500, with a large number of analyzes and recommendations. In both price ranges, the models will have varied features: some will have a Full Size layout, but without RGB, others will have an aluminum body, but 60% — and so on, always with minimal customization possibilities.

Meanwhile, the Force One Yari arrives with a high price of R$699.90, on its official website, but comes with a 95-key layout, individual RGB lighting, quality switches with exchange possibilities, USB-C cable braid and tools in the box. With the set, the user will have at hand what they need to venture into the world of personalized keyboards or, simply, the means to carry out repairs at home.

Considering this use case, the Force One Yari becomes a stronger competitor, as the alternative for such a complete set is only easily found in import markets — which, as previously stated, suffer from high taxes. In short, the model can be understood as the Perfect starter kit for new enthusiasts in the field of typing, but still offering an excellent out-of-the-box experience.

Is Force One Yari worth it?

If you're just looking for a simpler upgrade for your PC and aren't picky, there are cheaper alternatives than Force One Yari. However, if you are looking for a complete mechanical keyboard, with RGB and customization possibilities for the future, this model is one of the best options on the national market.
