Ryan Gosling criticizes Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig's absence from the Oscars

The star Ryan Gosling officially spoke out after the announcement of the Oscar 2024 nominees, which took place this Tuesday (23). He commented on the absences involving Barbiefilm for which he was nominated for Best Actor by Ken's interpretation.

Specifically, Gosling talked about Greta Gerwig's non-nomination for the Best Director award it's from Margot Robbiewho plays Barbie, in the Best Actress category. “To say I'm disappointed they weren't nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement,” says the actor.

“Against all odds and nothing more than a pair of soulless, half-naked and thankfully genital-less dolls, they made us laugh, broke our hearts, boosted culture and made history. Their work should be recognized alongside the other nominations highly deserved”, says the actor in the official note.

In addition to the acting category, he is also competing for the song I'm Just Ken in Best Original Song. What Was I Made For? also by Barbie and composed by Billie Eilish, is another nominee.

In addition to the complaint, the actor thanked the character for being recognized. He also celebrated Barbie's presence in important categories such as Best Film, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress (America Ferrera).

“I'm incredibly honored to be nominated by my peers alongside notable artists in a year of so many great films. And I never thought I'd say this, but I also feel incredibly honored and proud to have played a plastic doll named Ken ” says Gosling.

Ferrera also made a similar criticism. In an interview with CBS, she states that Gerwig and Robbie “they made history and raised the bar” in Barbie, therefore deserving the nominations that didn't come.

“The cultural and industrial impact they achieved will be felt for generations and I am very grateful that they invited me to be part of it”, adds the actress, who plays Gloria in the feature film.

The Oscar ceremony will be held on the evening of March 10th. Oppenheimer leads in number of categories present, with 13 nominations in total, followed by Poor Creatures It is Flower Moon Assassinsboth competing for 11 awards.
