Rocket scientists are intelligent individuals, especially in the areas of math and science. It’s definitely not a job for anyone. While “rocket scientist” is used, the job title is “aerospace engineer“. The two types are aeronautical engineers developing aircraft and astronautics engineers who develop crafts for outer space, says the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Rocket scientists are essential for the production of aircraft with technology becoming more advanced, military defense systems and structures for space exploration. They conceptualize and plan the design of spacecraft, rockets, missiles, aircraft and other military objects. They also oversee the manufacturing process, perform tests to analyze the effectiveness of the product and make adjustments or changes to address performance issues. While some focus specifically on the production of rockets, most use their expertise in aerodynamics, propulsion, physics and other deeply complex scientific processes for the development of various projects.
Aerospace engineers must work well under pressure. It must meet strict deadlines and constant to achieve the best design to reach a bigger distance or travel at a speed pressure feels more quickly. In space exploration and military defense, the U.S. expect to continually improve existing concepts to remain at the forefront of technology. Good communication and writing skills are required to compile reports, manuals and other documents accurate and interesting . The work is done in typical offices, laboratories and manufacturing plants. Since the project requires a lot of commitment, it is common that a team of aerospace engineers work together, each providing a particular expertise in a scientific area. While many are employed by NASA and the U.S. military, its scientific and engineering knowledge is as valuable and applicable to other situations that are beneficial in other fields. Some automakers have turned to them for help for the development of consumer vehicles more efficient, says the Employment Development Department of California.
Those interested in the profession must be solid in all subjects math (geometry, algebra, calculus and trigonometry), English, chemistry and physics. Knowledge of software computer aided design (CAD, for its acronym in English) is needed to create accurate drawings and design. A good understanding of advanced technologies such as robotics, laser and electron optics is also essential, explains the Employment Development Department of California. The department urges to pursue undergraduate studies at an institution recognized by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET, for its acronym in English). Many continue their postgraduate positions for more higher than entry level.
