5 films for those who liked True Detective: Nightland
After a five-year hiatus, one of the main investigative series received its long-awaited continuation. The fourth season of True Detective premiered on January 14th on HBO Max, receiving the title of Night Land. Starring Jodie Foster and Kali Reis, the series will feature six episodes that will be broadcast at 11pm, every Sunday, until February 25th.
In True Detective: Nightland, a group of eight scientists mysteriously disappear during the cold and unforgiving winter of Ennis, a small town in Alaska. In the 30 Days of Night season, detectives Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) must put their differences aside to deal with the investigation — which seems to be much bigger than anything they've ever faced. .
Like the other seasons of the series, the plot deals not only with the investigation of cruel crimes and their symbolism, but with their effects on the psychology of the investigators. In the new season, however, this is further enhanced by the impact that the isolated environment and harsh climate imposes on its inhabitants — representing physical and mental obstacles.

5. 30 Days of Night
Just like in True Detective: Nightlandthe long 30 Days of Night (2007) takes place during the winter season in Alaska, in which the residents of a small village have to spend 30 consecutive days in one long night. In the plot, a small group led by police officer Eben Oleson (Josh Hartnett) will need to face the terrible threat of vampires who, taking advantage of the lack of sun, invade the city of Barrow and turn the residents into their victims. 4. The Shining
Stanley Kubrick's classic horror film exemplifies how living in a hostile environment can interfere with the human mind. In The illuminated (1980), Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) is hired to be a caretaker at an old hotel during the winter season in the mountains of Colorado. Completely isolated from the rest of society, Jack, Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and their son, Danny (Danny Lloyd), must face the dangers of the place and the apparent madness of the family man, who is succumbing to the hotel's bloody influences. 3. Wilderness
Wild land (2017) is a crime drama and mystery film, which shares many elements with the new season of True Detective. The story takes place in Wind River, an Indian reservation in Wyoming, where many disappearances have occurred. In the story, Cory Lambert (Jeremy Renner) is an experienced hunter who finds the body of a young indigenous woman. To solve the murder, FBI agent Jane Banner (Elizabeth Olsen) is put in charge of the case. Together, they face the obstacles of weather and powerful figures to discover the real culprit. 2. The Chase
In The chase (2012), a group of employees at an oil refinery suffer a plane crash after spending five weeks away from civilization. Due to a strong storm, the workers find themselves isolated in a remote area of Alaska. The group of survivors, led by John Ottway (Liam Neeson), must face the difficulties of the climate in the icy expanse, as well as a hungry pack. Watch the trailer below;
1. The Enigma of Another World
The film The Enigma of Another World (1982), an adaptation of the novel Who Goes There? (1938) and the film The Arctic Monster (1951), became one of the main horror classics. Building its tension in a very characteristic way, the film directed by John Carpenter presents a group of scientists isolated in Antarctica who have to deal with an intruder. The alien threat uses organisms as hosts, camouflaging itself among scientists and creating widespread chaos on the station. Check out the trailer below;
