Barbie snubbed at the Oscars: film misses out in two important categories

It took a while, but we finally have the Oscar nominees in 2024. This year, one of the most anticipated films at the awards was Barbiedirected by Greta Gerwig, but the response to the film's repercussions was not that positive.

Margot Robbie, the actress who played Barbie in the film, was not nominated in the best actress category. Taking her place are Annette Bening (Nyad), Lily Gladstone (Flower Moon Assassins), Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall), Carey Mulligan (Conductor) and Emma Stone (Poor Creatures).

The film also did not receive a nomination from Greta Gerwig for best direction, losing to Justine Triet (Anatomy of a Fall), Martin Scorsese (Flower Moon Assassins), Christopher Nolan (Oppenheimer), Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Creatures) and Jonathan Glazer (The Zone of Interest).

Despite not being nominated for the Best Actress and Best Director awards, Barbie was remembered in other categories at the Oscars.

Barbie It was nominated for seven categories at the Oscars, including Best Supporting Actor for Ryan Gosling, Best Supporting Actress for America Ferrera and, most importantly, Best Film. In the best song category, the film competes with two tracks: What Was I Made For? It is I'm Just Ken.
